SHEER SEDUCTION – THE MAGIC OF TANGORA AT GENTING JAZZ FEST
Listening to Annick Tangora is like being gently warmed by the evening sun after a piña colada or two. Her beauty sways your senses even as her honey-rich voice washes over you.
This remarkable woman is of French-Italian descent but spent a long time soaking up the music of Brazil and the West Indies. Her music is a lush blend of seductive Afro-Caribbean sounds and Parisian sophistication. Her laid-back, mellifluous vocals are delivered mostly French. She also switches to English quite effortlessly.
Her band Tangora, an ensemble of the finest French and Caribbean jazz musicians, will be one of the international acts performing at the annual Genting International Jazz Festival in Genting on April 4th and 5th.
One of them is Mario Canonge, high-profile virtuoso pianist with 8 albums and his own band. He was also at 2007’s Genting Jazz Fest together with Andy Narell. Mario is well known for his flair in several styles – global as well as his native West Indies Martinique.
Bassist Eric Vincenzo is himself a composer and arranger who specializes in French West Indies music. Also in the band is the award-winning Emmanuel Bex on organ, Francois Laizeau on drums, Duvone Stewart from Trinidad and Tobago on steel pans, and Xavier Desandre-Navarre on percussion.
Their music is heavily influenced by Caribbean jazz, jazz blues and more than a touch of Latin rhythms.
Ten bands are already booked for the festival. Genting is pulling out all the stops to exhilarate and enchant with the many diverse jazz bands they have brought in, coupled with the jazz lounge atmosphere they are going to create for the festival.
